Holistic nurses like to use assessments to help you discover where you are and where you would like to go. On this website I’ve been collecting data from the Integrative Health and Wellness assessment for 3 years and have received 486 entries! If I was doing this as a research study this would be a pretty impressive number, so I want to first thank everyone who has completed a survey over the years!
The integrative health and Wellness assessment is a tool to assist you in becoming aware of your strengths and human potential, as well as identify areas in your life that may need some attention. It’s based on 36 questions and takes about 10 minutes to complete. The questions come from each of the domains of Health and Wellness: life balance and satisfaction, relationships, spirituality, mental wellness, emotional wellness, physical wellness, your environment and health responsibility. When you decide to engage in a coaching relationship with a holistic nurse the IHWA is used as a baseline to guide the development of health and wellness goals and is most effective when completed multiple times during the coaching relationship.
After reviewing the 486 entries on my website I am quite astounded by the results but at the same time not overly surprised. So, let me explain. Most of the individuals who completed the survey fit the statistics we all know: they had never had their blood pressure, triglycerides, cholesterol or glucose checked. And do not eat 5 servings of fruits and veggies every day or get the appropriate levels of physical activity.
But what strikes me the most about the results of this survey, is that most participants rarely manage their stress or make time for a reflective self-development practice (ie. Make health and wellness goals). And to top it off, they only occasionally ask for help.
This really hit home, because this is totally me. I get where you are because I still struggle to manage my stress and most days find it hard to make time for my health and Wellness and to make it worse, I rarely ask for help. And I call myself a holistic nurse coach!
Now, I have not completed a true scientific analysis here, and may not ever do that. But what I now know, is that most of the folks who pop on to my website and answer this assessment are just like me. We want to support our health and wellness, but most days find ourselves coming up short. Either its time, lack of resources, not wanting to ask for help—you name it—everything seems to get in the way of this goal.
But I’m not convinced that we can’t achieve a higher version of ourselves or else the Holy Spirit would never have given me Deep Roots Healing. When you are given a vision of your higher self, the first step in getting there is claiming it. There are proven strategies that can shift your mindset, daily activities and overall lifestyle to get you to that goal, But none of that will happen until you make the decision that this is where you want to go.
So, if you’ve just been dipping your toes in the water and exploring what it might mean to live a healthier lifestyle now is the time to make that commitment. Decide today that you are going all in and take the first step and ask for help. This is your part, no one can do it for you.
What is it that you need the most?
