Our mission at Deep Roots Healing LLC is to revive nature care and herbal medicine for enhanced health and wellbeing.
Herbal medicine, botanical medicine or herbalism is an ancient tradition that is experiencing a resurgence in the United States as more people are turning to natural solutions to health and wellness. The modern practice of herbalism is rooted in the honored traditions of the healer-gardener. And most early healers were women, mothers, and elders who spent just as much time in their gardens and kitchens as they did with their children and families. The use of herbs, herbal teas and spices has historically been a companion to medical practice and it is only recent that traditional herbalism was split from the modern medicine movement. Many holistic practitioners today are working to bring unity to herbalism and medicine in a way that not only supports the tradition but also enhances the scientific rigor of the practice. Many medicines produced by pharmaceutical companies are plant based. But they are re-designed or optimized to target specific organs or body systems and because of this often have many unwanted side effects. Herbal preparations however are from the entire plant and are of course untouched, thus they are much better at rebalancing the entire system and unlikely to have unwanted side effects, but this attribute makes it much harder to test their effect.
